Inside the Type 1 Personality
Type Ones seek to have integrity. They focus on doing good, improving themselves and others, being balanced, being objectively right, ensuring fairness, living up to their ideals, and striving for perfection to be beyond criticism.

Core desire: Ones want to be good, and do good, in almost all realms of life. They are teachers and crusaders, driven by a strong moral compass to be the best versions of themselves and to help others fulfill their highest potential.
Core fear: Ones are afraid of being bad or defective. They fear harsh criticism and being proven wrong, both of which threaten their identity as good, competent people. They are constantly trying to learn and convey what is right so they can avoid the pain of feeling flawed.
Signs You Might Be a Type 1

Type 1 Research Findings
In a large Blueprint study of over 1,000 respondents, Type Ones were found to make up 14% of the population. We found a slight gender difference of 13% male and 15% female.
They most frequently reported working in law, medicine, academia, and operations, and are one of the most likely types to hold an advanced degree.

Many of the Type Ones we interviewed expressed valuing a balanced approach to life, which included prioritizing self-care and putting time and effort into family life.
“It was 7:30am on a Saturday. I woke up my son and we headed down to the field. I threw batting practice as I helped adjust his swing and gave him encouragement. We finished up, picked up a few pieces of trash by the benches, and walked home making plans for the day.” – Alex, 45
Many of the Type Ones we interviewed are secretly quite adventurous, embracing new courses, personal development, and world travel.

Type 1 Wings: 1w9 or 1w2
1w9: The Idealist is wise, fair, scholarly, rational, orderly, and emotionally reserved. They are considerate and articulate philosophical idealists who are strong and committed in their beliefs, yet gentle in their demeanors. They have a cerebral and poised disposition, typically cool, composed, and objective.
1w2: The Advocate is warm, passionate, principled, improving, moral, and self-controlled. They are thoughtful and purposeful drivers of change whose desire to do things the right way is softened by a pull to connect with others. They are appropriate but sociable, with an emotional warmth and a light-hearted, witty sense of humor.

Type 1 in Relationships
In a large study of over 1,000 romantic partnerships, we found that Type Ones tend to marry 2s, 4s, and 7s at a higher rate than other types.
They showed a preference for partners who are positive, non-judgmental, accepting of flaws, and generally more reassuring.
In dating we discovered that a One can be an exceptional match if you admire people who drive to do their best and inspire you to do the same.
If you want a partner who’s consistent, principled, and committed—who will show up for you no matter what—you’ll appreciate a One. You may have to roll with the occasional suggestion for improvement, but their idealistic eye almost always comes from a place of care. If you value stability, honesty, and shared growth, a One could be your perfect match.

Type 1 Psychological Growth
Ones at their best accept themselves, others, and life as they are. They’re multidimensional thinkers who are tolerant and loving, living by a set of values that creates substantial impact for the greater good.
Ones descend into low health when they’re afraid of being corrupt. Their obsession with being good and ensuring that things are “right” devolves into Ones becoming controlling and hypercritical of themselves and others.
